Morning Staff Meeting:
The morning staff meeting was overwhelming at first. The entire teacher-body in one room was extremely powerful to see and as I sat down amongst them, I could feel the connection they had as a family. This particular meeting was extremely moving. One student from each grade was chosen from the dean's list, but not just that, this student had shown the most improvement during their time at Poudre High School. The student stood at the front of the room, with a teacher or staff member they found inspiring and that staff member had a few words for the student. The entire room was in awe by these four students and how they have not only made a difference in their own lives, but also how they effect those around them. Check out the photo below with my notes about the meeting.
Parent Teacher Conferences:
This experience was very humbling and gave a new perspective I had not yet experienced. I am not a parent and therefore do not know what it is like to have someone else talk about my child. With that said, this was the first experience I have had talking with parents about their child in an academic setting. For some parents the grade was the main concern, once they knew the letter they were happy. Other parents welcomed the grade information, but wanted to know how their child was doing in the classroom setting. Some parents came alone, while other parents brought the entire family. It was very cool to see the different support groups each student had surrounding them. I look forward to more parent-teacher conferences in the near future!
Below is a document containing the layout of the conference table configuration. The art teachers were grouped together and behind the tables, they had put boards together with student work- examples from projects thus far. Showing parents visuals really helped them understand the concepts, struggles and persistence their students was putting forth during these projects.
